'Murud' city is famous for the impregnable Janjira fort that stands in the 'Raigad' district of Maharashtra. It is one of its kind because it is situated 3 kms deep inside the sea. The fort is battered on all sides by the Arabian Sea waves. The majestic island fortress of the Siddhis stands majestically 40 feet high even at a full tide. It could not be ever conquered by the enemies because of its specially designed strong construction by the Ahmednagar ruler under the supervision of Malik Amber in the 15th century. Neither the Portuguese nor the British could subjugate the fort and the Marathas despite their repeated attempts failed to subjugate the 'Siddhi' symbol of power and sustenance. Janjira fort is spread over an area of 22 acres. There are two water tanks inside the fort and a deep well with cold and sweet water. One thing worth noting, that also adds up to the astonishing factor is that, it is synonymous with the fort. Even the most saline sea water provides pure water to quench the thirst of the visitor. It is a brooding structure overlooking a lovely beach where one can spend many happy hours swimming and sun-bathing.
